My Story

My story begins With a small child raised in rural mississippi...And continues to this very day.

I was born and raised in the rural southern United States, where I lived until I was 11. I was a curious child, my two great loves were reading and playing with legos. I did not discover the outdoors until after college, still not a big sports guy. I spent the rest of my formative years living in Florida.

I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. I graduated cum laude with Bachelor's degrees in International & Global Studies and Marketing. During that time: I studied International Business in France, did social media and email marketing at a local chamber of commerce, worked as a research fellow in global economics and then in Middle Eastern studies, worked in a computer lab, and got involved with every environmental organization at my school. I joined in and eventually led a project to build a sustainable aquaponic farm with Engineers without Borders. It was in college that I discovered my passion for the environment and the future of food, when me and my best friend built our own aquaponic farm in our backyard. We grew greens and raised fish and rethought our relationship with food.

After graduating, I moved up here to Washington to work as an intern on exchange programs at the International Center for Journalists. Early in my internship, I was hired on to do fundraising and development full-time. I ran fundraising campaigns, helped manage events and managed fundraising records in both their Raiser’s Edge and Salesforce databases. I went on to manage those databases for the whole organization and led the project to transfer all of the data to one platform. After finishing this and a few other projects, I decided that I would take a sabbatical and switch gears. I took up photography, writing, podcasting, ukulele, taking long walks in the forest, and meditating. I learned a lot about myself in the process.

Now, I work on digital fundraising platforms and programs with the World Food Program USA, and am putting all of my skills and experiences to use. I still live in the District of Columbia and I still write and podcast and pretend I can play ukulele well. I still seek ways to contribute to the betterment of the world and myself by telling stories better.
